ABOUT RESURGAM
The Resurgam Music and Arts Festival is Portland's premier annual arts celebration and a powerful vehicle for community transformation. As a free, accessible celebration held at Ocean Gateway Park on the second Sunday each June, the festival reaches 7,500+ attendees annually and provides performance opportunities for artists, creates economic growth for local businesses, promotes collaboration among arts organizations, and builds civic pride through the celebration of community authenticity.
Since 2022, the Resurgam Festival has addressed a critical gap created by the closure of the Old Port Festival and has ensured 100% accessibility with no admission fees. This community-focused festival showcases a diverse lineup of performers across multiple event stages, integrates local arts organization activities, accommodates area merchants, includes craft vendors, invites food trucks, and more. The festival's collaborative model amplifies each partner's individual impact through collective action. The festival offers performances from established Maine musicians and is a platform for emerging talents, including the young artists from MAMM, thereby supporting the next generation of Maine music makers.
Goals for the Resurgam Festival
1) Create a sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant music and arts festival that kicks off summer in Maine. Resurgam is designed to be Portland's premier annual arts celebration, sustained by revenues from corporate sponsorships, vendor fees, select ticketed events, grant funding, and in-kind donations.
2) Have a unifying cultural event that encourages collaboration between the City, local businesses, and neighborhood arts organizations that make up the Portland creative community.
3) Promote economic development by enhancing Portland, Maine's reputation as a youth-centered, multi-cultural, family-friendly city that welcomes all to participate in community-minded projects. Offering a rich experience that promotes the appreciation of place, civic pride, community inclusion, and social generosity.
“For over 15 years, MAMM has championed youth musicians across Maine, and Resurgam Festival represents our vision in action. We are proud to offer a community event where young musicians can perform along with established artists and where local creatives connect with the community. We see the festival's namesake, Resurgam ("I shall rise again"), unfold annually as audiences, businesses, and artists come together for this celebration."
— Jeff Shaw, Festival Director and Director of the Maine Academy of Modern Music
"Music and the creative arts have fueled what OTTO does since we first opened our doors in Portland’s Arts District in 2009. We’ve seen first-hand how the arts can enrich lives, foster creative collaboration, and build community. We are proud to be the headline sponsor of Resurgam, and to be part of this growing annual music and arts festival. “
— Eric Shepherd, Director of Marketing & Communications at OTTO
