The Sound of the MAMM Community: Forget, Forget at Resurgam
Among the more than 30 bands performing at Resurgam this summer, few are as closely tied to the festival’s roots as Portland indie synth-pop outfit Forget, Forget. The band features familiar faces from the Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) community—including Patia Maule, who serves as MAMM’s Portland Program Manager.
Patia runs Portland programming for the non-profit and teaches piano, guitar, bass, home recording, and songwriting to students of all ages. Outside of MAMM, she can be found with Tyler DeVos (vocals, guitar), Glen Capen (guitar), and Aaron LaChance (drums) conjuring up Forget, Forget’s signature sound: driving rhythms, lush harmonies, and expansive textures. It’s a sound evocative of New Order, Talking Heads, and Robyn, but with poignant lyrics reflecting modern-day life in Portland, Maine.
This year, Forget, Forget headlines the Dana Street Stage in the Old Port on Saturday, June 13—as part of Resurgam’s expanded weekend programming. Alongside student bands and nationally touring artists, the festival features a handful of faculty bands, highlighting the musical ecosystem that MAMM has cultivated over the years.
“Students know you as a teacher in a lesson room or rehearsal space, but they don’t always get to see what you do outside of that,” says Patia. “Then they see your band perform and realize, ‘Oh—that’s possible.’ Maybe they’re taking piano lessons, and suddenly they can imagine using those same skills in a band or writing original music of their own. It all becomes part of the teaching loop.”
For Patia, this Dana Street performance carries special significance. “The addition of Saturday programming this year is going to feel fresh and exciting, while also being a bit of a throwback to the days of the Old Port Festival, when MAMM used to have a stage on Dana Street,” she reflects.
And if you can’t make Forget, Forget’s set at Resurgam? Their long-awaited third album, “What Should We Do Today?”—mixed by Chris Zane and mastered by Adam Ayan—is slated for release in late summer 2026.
